Tennesssee Diploma Project
Tennessee students returning to school this year face greater expectations than even last year's graduates faced. The Tennessee Diploma Project, a school reform initiative launched by Governor Phil Bredesen, takes effect this fall with new graduation requirements and more stringent standards for what students learn in school. The goal is for students to graduate with superior knowledge and skills allowing them a choice of continuing their education or securing a desirable job. What parent doesn't want their child to have a good life?

You can learn about what is takes in today's world to achieve that future here.

What Every Parent Should Know

Smart From the Start
Image

School Success starts early. The Department of Education wants to help you to be your child's first and most important teacher. This is the reason the Department has initiated Smart From the Start.

Your child depends on you for a good early start to learning. The attention, the nurturing and the activities you provide in early childhood are essential to the development of linkages with your baby's brain. You can do the job by spending time with your child, talking directly to him/her and reading stories aloud.
